Diabetes Statistics
Estimated to double 2025

Diabetes StatisticsDiabetes is now the 6th leading cause of death in Western society.

* Type 1 diabetes accounts for 5-10% of all diagnosed cases

* Type 2 diabetes accounts for 90-95% of all diagnosed cases

* Over 194 million people suffer with diabetes worldwide. This global figure is estimated to reach 333 million by 2025 if current trends continue.

This includes:

o Around 18.2 million diagnosed Americans;
o Approximately 1.8 million diagnosed in the UK;
o 18.1 diagnosed in India;
o 10.3 million diagnosed in China; and
o 13 million diagnosed in other Asian and island areas

Further undiagnosed people are unaware they have the condition. In some countries this figure could be as much as 80%

Plus, diabetes contributes to almost 250,000 deaths a year.

Diabetic mismanagement causes blindness in 19% of diabetics; kidney disease in 15%; and limb amputation in 17% of diabetics.

70-90% of type 2 diabetes sufferers are overweight (a normal weight balance can contribute to a cure).

Adult-onset diabetes is thought to be accountable for almost ½ of all male impotence.

Diabetes increases the risk of developing heart disease by a staggering 300%!

Interestingly diabetes is more prevalent amongst black and Hispanic origins than in white people of all age groups. Senior health, for those 65 years and older prevalence is greater across the board.
